Tonight Has Finished Me Off Again

There is much rejoicing because the WIP is done!! The novella blossomed and grew into something much bigger and better than I thought it would be, and I'm pleased to be done with it. Now, for the edits and then hitting send! But, first I need a break.

What better way to unwind, than with a little Man Candy. Aussie Rules season is upon us, so I've picked out some extra special Candy this week. It's a classic. Go Cats!!

I won't be around much this week. Tuesday, we are heading to NYC for a taping of the Daily Show! It will be another case of trying to keep myself from humping someone. This time, instead of Henry Rollins, it will be Jon Stewart. The things I go through for entertainment!

Not On Strike, But I'm About to Bowl One

I'm about waist deep in my new work in progress, and I think it is going well. It's been going a bit slower than I would like, but I'm trying. I have to get back to it, but I would be remiss if I didn't stop by and post some Man Candy. You know, I'm not a soccer fan, but I may have to rethink that policy.

I Got Truth In Times of Fiction

I got some good news today, Best Lesbian Erotica 2011 is a finalist for a Lambda Literary Award!! I am so proud to be a part of this collection and have my fingers crossed that it is honored with the award. The best part, the event is being hosted by Lea DeLaria, who was the guest judge for the book and also wrote the introduction. Sounds like fate to me!

I did something fairly scary recently, well I should say scary for me. I let some deadlines pass me by. For the last year or so, I've been trying to hit as many deadlines as I can for various collections and anthologies. It has served me well, keeping me busy and letting me write a variety of different stories with an amazing array of themes. But, I've felt the need for a long time to 'do my own thing', for lack of a better way to say it. It's a scary prospect in some ways, not having a set goal, a set theme or a deadline pushing me to keep writing. But, I have to do it. In a lot of ways, I feel like I have no choice. I have to take the leap, and if I fall, well, so be it.

Tonight, we are going to see Henry Rollins at the Whitaker Center in Harrisburg. This will be the sixth time I've seen him do a spoken word show. It will take all of my strength to not hurl myself on stage and hump him silly. If that does happen to occur, at least I can go to jail happy! I'll be back tomorrow with a recap!

And, For No Good Reason Here You Are, Inside My Head Again

Not much to say right now. It's just not the right time. I'll be back soon with more. Until then, Man Candy will have to do. Hope you all have a great start to the week.

And Time Stacks Up in Piles Like Winter Snow

How do the weekends always go by so damn fast? I swear it was just Friday a second ago. It was nice to actually get something accomplished this weekend, although it never seems to be as much as I want. But, such is life.

I'm ready to tackle yet another week of words, some how. Damn me and my procrastination. Just when you think you have it beat, it rears its ugly head again. One day at a time, I guess. The trick seems to be instead of beating myself up for putting things off, just starting over the next day, next week, next minute. In the past, I would just throw my hands up and say, "Oh well, fuck it!" and give up completely. Today, I'd like to think I'm over that black and white thinking. Now, I just get my ass back in front of the keyboard and start again. What else can I do?

I'm doing this week's visual treat as (hopefully) a farewell to winter and the snow. I don't know what I'd do without my Man Candy. Thank God, I don't have to find out!

Alone We May Fight, So Just Let Us Be Three Tonight

Got some good news yesterday that I thought I'd share. Three anthologies that contain my stories have been nominated for the 2011 TLA Gaybie Awards. They are: Skater Boys, edited by Neil Plakcy, Hard Working Men and College Boys edited by Shane Allison. Awesome, no? I'm super stoked to be a part of all these collections and am personally hoping for a three-way time for first place! Follow this link to vote and make my dream a reality.

Back to work. I suddenly feel inspired! I hope you do, too.

I Want Your Leather Studded Kiss in The Sand

Sometimes, love isn't pretty. The new anthology, Bad Romance from Freaky Fountain Press, has erotica that deals with that very thing. The collection includes my story, On the Quiet. At $4.99, it's a bargain, but for those of you who still like the feel of paper in your hands, it is also available in paperback. Check it out and let me know what you think!

(Today's lyrics were obviously a no brainer!)

I Can Feel The Weather In My Bones

Luke Garrett, come on down!! You're the winner of a free copy of Black Fire. Thank you to everyone who sent in their entry for my contest. I wish I had more copies to give away, but alas, I do not. So, Luke, shoot me an email with your snail mail info and I'll send the book right out.

In more book news, Sex at Work is now available and features my story, Needled. It is right along side stories from such awesome authors like Rachel Kramer Bussel, Jeremy Edwards, Justine Elyot, K D Grace, Kay Jaybee, Sommer Marsden, and Charlotte Stein

I hope you all had a nice weekend, I know I did. Spending time at the Mothership always feels good. Got a haircut, finally saw my cousin after having to reschedule three times and spent time with my niece. Her pre-school teachers think she's too quiet. They should hang out with us for an hour and they'd have an entirely different picture! I'm ready to get back to work this week, hopefully with a little extra peace and quiet to go along with it.

It's almost time for the AFL season to start. Welcome to the league, David Swallow. (yes, that is his real name!) Man Candy may as well have been invented for that very reason. Game on!

It's So Hard to Just Slow Down

A few nights ago, I had drinks with a friend who I used to work with, back when I had a day job. It was at a bank, and to say I was ill-suited to work there would be a staggering understatement. Much like all the jobs I'd had before it, being a bank teller just wasn't for me. It took me a long time to find my way. I took a lot of wrong turns before I got to where I am today; following my passion and writing for money. As I talked to my friend, I realized I am a very lucky person. I get to do what I love. Most people are doing a job they hate, or at the very minimum don't like very much.

Lately, if I'm being honest, I haven't exactly been loving my job. I have found myself uninspired, listless and just plain frustrated. Not just by the words that only seem to be coming in fits and spurts, but at a million different little things that seem to be conspiring against me at the moment. I'm trying to push through it, but it hasn't been easy. I always wonder where the mojo goes when it disappears. It always returns, eventually. Or at least, it better, if it knows what's good for it. There's some good news on the horizon, which just might help. I'll keep you posted. Don't forget to check out this post, for your chance to win a free book. There are still a few days left to enter.

Well, I better get back to banging my head against the wall. Man Candy is helping, of course.

How Long Can This Take, Tell Myself That Everything is Great

I really too tired to be writing this now, but I'll give it a chance. This weekend pretty much rocked. Lancaster on Saturday to meet the super nice and super talented Megan Hart. She was signing books at the Borders and it was well worth the trip down the highway to see her. Before we stopped by the book shop, we went to a wonderful little donut shop called Fractured Prune where we ordered the most insanely delicious and decadent donuts. We have to go back there very soon, despite the fact that those bad boys are a diet killer.

It's back to work this week. There just never seems to be enough time to get it all done. Maybe it's time to scale back my ambitions a bit. Or redirect my energy to more satisfying projects. Perhaps that is the better solution to the ambivalence I've been feeling lately. Lord knows, somethings got to give. Man Candy, take me away!
