And Here We Are to Sing You a Song

For about a year and a half, I worked at a body piercing shop/vintage clothing store. For about 9 of those months, I worked as an actual body piercer. It wasn't a great job. The hours sucked and the work was kind of gross, as you can imagine. But there was one thing I enjoyed about the job; getting to hang with some cool kids. I use the term kids because at 28, I was the second oldest person who worked there. The rest ranged in age from 18 to 24.

We would spend a lot of time hanging out, as the shop wasn't that busy most of the time. There was one girl in particular that I worked with quite a bit who would make me do silly stuff, like try on the wigs and dance. She would always control the CD player and out of 200 CDs in the machine, she always put on the same ones. The music was even piped into the piercing room, so I couldn't escape all the Emo classics. She would always sing to me and one of her favorites at the time was Simple Plan. She would look at me with this earnest expression and bellow the words into her fake microphone. I complained at the time, but in the end, I took some CDs home and burned them onto my iPod.

She recently picked up stakes and moved back to her home state, and even though I hadn't seen her in a while, it was nice to know she was still around town. I'm jealous of her free spirit, and her ability to do what she wants, exactly when she wants to do it.

So, in tribute to her, I'm listening to Finch right now, who are crying some emo tears for her departure. If I close my eyes, I can still see her.

"Cuz we lost it all/Nothing lasts forever/I'm sorry I can't be perfect."

I must say I don't know much about Emo, but I do know what it is to be around a music and grow a fondness because of the memories that the music represents.

Enjoy!

Thanks, Craig. Emo isn't for everyone, but it does have some good stuff to offer.
